Case study of a Contemporary Bespoke Kitchen in a Red-Brick Barn Conversion by Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture

Our work usually falls into three main categories; Traditional, Creative and Architectural

We define the Creative work as being designed along traditional lines but with a modern twist or detail and this kitchen is a good example of this area of work.

The brief was for a traditionally built kitchen with a contemporary feel and the entire interior of the property contrasts with the building which is a traditional red brick barn conversion.

The kitchen is built using our traditional in-frame method, with solid wooden drawer boxes featuring the latest soft close drawer systems, doors with our unique arrangement of concealed magnets and soft-closers.

Our hand-cut dovetail joints and hand painted cupboards highlight the quality of the workmanship and it has been designed in striking Black American Walnut and mixed with Farrow & Ball colours.

The Silestone Worktops give a crisp feel against the walnut and the Mercury Range Cooker, the Fisher & Paykel Fridge drawers and the Liebherr Wine Fridge all help create a great living and working space for people who love cooking and entertaining.

Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture and The English Glasshouse to exhibit at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012

Working with the prestigious bespoke Orangery and Glasshouse manufacturer The English Glasshouse  we are proud to be presenting a working Bryan Turner kitchen at the world renowned RHS Chelsea Flower Show from Tuesday 22nd to Saturday 26th May 2012.

The kitchen will include a fully working Total Control AGA to showcase how the very latest technology sits effortlessly alongside our hand-built bespoke kitchen; built using time honoured skills, methods and craftsmanship.

The landscaped space has been designed by garden experts Deakin Lock to reflect a space for people who like to cook and enjoy eating outdoors.

It is an outside living space designed to be an extension of the home and to work seamlessly with orangery life. The exhibit will showcase the very best in modern family living.

A joy to live with, aesthetically pleasing and crafted with modern family life in mind, the kitchen, garden and the orangery have a quiet authority and are designed to bring pleasure from the practical.

The garden will feature plants with architectural interest, such as Agapanthus and Arum Lilies. These will be blended with more textural planting to give softness and a sense of enclosure. Other plants featured will include Verbena bon Ariensis and grasses such as Stipa.

The colour palette is relatively simple to ensure a sense of calm and optimum use of space. The orangery will be built from FSC-approved timber and will showcase conservation-style sliding sash windows and a clerestory with gothic-style glazing.

The more contemporary kitchen area features large bi-fold doors which open on to the stunning garden.

If you are at the show please come and visit us on Stand AW7 and we look forward to seeing you there.

Bryan Turner Kitchens make space for Emma Bridgewater’s Polka Dot Gallon Teapot

When we design we always look to design the room and not just the kitchen and it is always vital to us to ensure the kitchen will fit your property perfectly.

Whilst kitchen design is often about creating the wow factor we also want a kitchen that works perfectly day to day; we want everything in the kitchen to be in the right place to make it a pleasure to live and work in.

Having just done a photo-shoot for our new advertising campaign we took the opportunity to capture some shots showing the smaller details that make up our kitchens including finding a home for that huge Emma Bridgewater Teapot!

Finding a home for the customers beautiful china was high on the brief

Bryan Turner Kitchens & Galton Blackiston make a Fine Accompaniment

Bryan Turner is proud to be a business partner to Galton Blackiston. Apart from their obvious and natural affinity for all things culinary, both the kitchen designer/furniture maker and the Michelin-starred chef have an unwavering determination for achieving the highest possible standards, being sticklers for details, and being individual in everything they do.

Their partnership developed eight years ago when Bryan designed and created Galton and Traceys kitchen and utility room at their private home. Chosen for creativity and craftsmanship, Galton says he cant imagine his kitchen any other way. Seeing a natural path for workflow, and inspired by the potential to improve the way Galton could use his kitchen, Bryan created a warm, practical, yet versatile living space for Blackiston family life, entertaining and cookery demonstrations.

Since then, Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture has designed and handmade furniture for several rooms in Galton and Traceys home, and is currently designing wardrobes for their sons bedroom. Bryan has also created bedroom and occasional furniture for several principle rooms in Morston Hall, and for all of the new Pavilion rooms in the annex.

Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture employs time-served cabinet makers, craftsmen, designers and operations staff in Norfolk, serving customers throughout the UK. The team share a passion for handcrafting bespoke furniture of excellence in both quality and design. Part of their philosophy is that proportion and details are paramount to perfection, so even the subtlest of design elements are deliberately handcrafted to the most exacting standards.

"It’s all about the details" says Bryan Turner, Founder and Director of Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture. The size of rails, the positioning of handles, the fine details of mouldings and turnings make a huge difference to the finished overall proportions that make furniture look right. Were genuinely passionate about what we do. Its not just a job.

Attention to detail and quality of craftsmanship sees Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture frequently featured in magazines such as Period Living and Beautiful Kitchens, and the company is fast becoming known for its creativity of design. Whether complementing extraordinary surroundings or providing continuity to an architects vision, the design team is creating sophisticated, architecturally sensitive spaces.

While function is vital to every kitchen we design, we carefully consider client needs, surroundings and lifestyles from the outset, explains Bryan. Similar to how an architect fulfils their vision, our job is to work with the potential space, combined with composition, materials, colour and texture elements to create balanced, beautifully proportioned furniture that really works for our customers.

For example, this kitchen (featured below) was designed to draw attention to scenery outside: the brief was to make the most of the view across the garden from the rooms bay window. Shaping the island to mirror the curve of the bay, seating and a window-facing prep area on the island all create a clear focal point – the garden view. At the same time, function and style are not compromised, with the result exceeding the customers expectations.

It’s a family affair

Have mobile wood-fired stove, will travel…or so the saying goes…? We’re thrilled to share that son James has taken his love for all things culinary and co-established The Proper Pizza Co., a mobile wood-fired pizza company.

Specialising in gourmet, fresh-baked (on the spot) wood-fired pizzas, Proper Pizza is completely mobile and perfect for any party or event catering for 50 to 250 guests, or more. The team use only the freshest ingredients, create bespoke topping combos, can serve up to 75 pizzas per hour, and cater for any dietary requirement.

Anything more we have to say could be seen as propaganda, so we’ll just provide you with this link to www.pizza-party.co.uk so you can see for yourself. Oh, we should just mention: the pizzas are absolutely delicious.

AGA ga-ga

It’s no secret that we love Aga, so you can understand that we’re in awe of the newest generation of Aga cooker, Aga Total Control, available now.

For a fractional £595 or so more than a traditional range, this hi-tech Aga turns on (and off) by the flick of a switch – and heats up so quickly compared to its Aga ancestors that it’s ready to cook within just 10 minutes (or 25 minutes if you are planning a roast). In the past, an Aga oven could typically take six hours to warm up. Worth the wait, granted, but we’ve warmed to its 21st Century sibling instantly.

Eventually, the company plans to make it possible to use your iPhone, for example, to turn your Aga on (or off) while you’re away from home. We won’t pretend to even know how that’s possible, but it sounds groundbreaking to us, all the same. For more information, check out the blurb on the Aga website.

Don’t forget Dad…

We know how well organised men are (sic)…which is why Father’s Day, Sunday June 19, feels a bit like a test. So be prepared and get your gift ready, already.
Many of the dad’s we know like a good gadget, so here are our top two recommendations for his special day:

Cherry/olive pitter

Ahh, ingenious little tool how we love you! There are so many varieties of pitters available that you can have your pick…but we would suggest the Oxo Good Grips as a decent kitchen staple as it’s good quality, and good looking. It’s also reasonably priced at £7.96 on Amazon and has the following features:
• Splatter shield protects work area from juices and removes for cleaning
• Sturdy, die-cast zinc construction removes pits with ease
• Soft, comfortable non-slip handles absorb pressure
• Generous cherry holder accommodates large cherries or olives
• Locks closed for convenient storage, dishwasher safe

For added entertainment, make Dad guess what it is.

Stainless Steel Soap

Say what? This hunk of soap couldn’t be more manly if it tried. It looks good, it feels good, and its purpose is to remove odours from your hands when you ‘wash’ with it – goodbye garlic/fish/onions/cumin/etc/etc. There are so many types of soap available – different sizes and shapes – that we suggest you google ‘stainless steel soap’ and start your search from there. The one featured in the image on this blog is available for £7.95 from Amazon, however.

Oh – and make him guess what it is…

P.S.: If you figure out how this metallic marvel achieves such a feat of science, please do get in touch with us.
